This entry has to jump the queue! Been to the Brunch Club and Supper twice before and tonight I was here for the 3rd visit looking for some desserts. I ordered a Lemon & Sugar Waffles. By the name of it, it seemed normal enough right? Well, apparently it should have been Waffles with Lemon and Sugar instead! I understand that there is a similar traditional English dish called Lemon & Sugar Pancakes whereby sugar icing is added along with a few slices of lemon on the side. However, I did not expect my Lemon & Sugar Waffle to come with only traces of icing, big slices of cocktail lemons and .... yes and a sugar container of packaged sugar (for coffee and tea)! (Fine! I will give them the credit that they use Fairtrade white sugar stick) The packaged sugar container was served together with the waffles and the staff clearly informed me that "here is the sugar for your waffles."
What on earth was I suppose to do with them? Sprinkle some of those white sugar on top? or some brown coffee sugar crystals? or wait, maybe some Equal Sugar Sweetener? Afterall, all three options were there for me to pick! Was it just my problem concerning the use of packaged sugar for this particular dessert? Feel free to enlighten me, please!
Dislikes: Pretty self explanatory am I right?

would you still give it another try even after the third time? I went there when they were at their old location for brunch, which I thought I may go back and try again but... should i rethink?
Thanks for dropping by! Yeah, I think I will come back again if I want to have brunch / all day breakfast in this area but I doubt I would order anything from their dessert section every again! Too many disappointment already.
The lemon wedges is so in your face! I can only admire the creativity of the chef at this place. They should be in the advertising business as they are thinking something nobody can imagine.
The dessert party .....don't want to sound like someone who only talk, I'll see what I can do.....As I've said before, may be when you move back to Happy Valley, as me and hubby also live here. Only that our place is really tiny......
@Jodi: Yes, right in my face indeed! I was speechless for over a minute while my friends laughed at me or at the waffles perhaps! argh ...
As for the dessert party, you mean your place is very cozy and welcoming right? Perfect for a very merry X'MAS party :) ... Let's see what can be done or actually, I am thinking whether it is possible to rent a kitchen somewhere ie: Towngas so no cleaning is required at the end. HAHAHAHA ... Let me look into that this weekend.
Those are lemon and sugar waffles, literally! Hahaha! DIY is fun, but not in this case I guess. So is there still gonna be a fourth time?
@Jin: Next time ask before you order to ensure the dish is not as literal as the name suggests :( ... 4th time? Perhaps nothing fro the dessert section! Then again, I would try my best to find alternatives starting now!
jes.....my god..what kind of crap is that..sorry to say law..ai ..i got too many disappointment from Brunch Club (all branches) before..u know, just a coincidence, I was searching where i can get a decent waffle maker (not those hello kitty or heart shape thin waffle..) so that i can make myself a good sunday brunch at home.. fluffy inside crunchy outside ones.topped with canadian maple syrup, fruits...but still couldn't find one..
Can you rent a kitchen at Towngas? Than is it possible to rent baking dishes? I probably don't have enough at home. Anyway, keep me posted. You can e-mail to me. Thanks.
By the way, my place is quite neat because I used to be a garment designer, and I know a bit about colour and decorating. (Here I am, bragging myself again!) I don't mind to invite people but I think I can only accomodate 4 or 5 guest.
Disgusting presentation for the price they are charging, given that the ingredients for both waffles and pancakes are very inexpensive.
To Greentea00: You can get decent kitchenware from the shops in Shanghai Street in Yau Ma Tei (which supply many restauarants in HK), so it seems very possible that you can find a proper waffle maker there. In addition to the choice, it'll be much cheaper too.
@Jodi: I once heard it is possible to rent the kitchen but have to confirm on that. Will keep you updated! You are not bragging at all, you have successfully made me want to visit your place even more to take look myself! I guess I know who to ask for tips when I move back to Happy Valley right? :)
@Greentea00: sigh ... I usually give restaurants second chances but I think I have been too generous with the Brunch Club (both outlets.)
@cheek angel: yes! in addition to the disgusting presentation, the price they charge me for such a dish is rather steep. Very disappointed with the Brunch Club, I gave it many chances already!
o o o I think I will go check out the kitchenware store later as well, not just for the waffle maker but other useful kitchenware too. Thanks !!!!
That's hilarious! I was pretty disappointed with my visit there as well (SoHo location). It's really too bad considering how quaint it is. Finding a good western brunch in HK is difficult. I agree that Brunch Club does not meet up to the standard.
@Victoria: Thanks for dropping by my blog. I had high hopes for this franchise / establishment but was very disappointed at how it failed to live up to expectation; perhaps a NEW BRUNCH CLUB should be setup! ... argh
LOL @ your comment on the lemon & sugar waffles, totally agree with what you said. At least they should give you icing instead of pre-packed white sugar...but the waffles look good, well i bloody hope they are cos i'm preparing to go early next morning.
@GG: if you are planning to order anything that sounds similar to mine, please ensure you notify them way in advance that you don't want packaged White Sugar with it! lol ... Enjoy your breakfast tomorrow :)
