Chez Moi Private Kitchen
After many years of operations, Chez Moi moved out of the walk-up building in Causeway Bay into a relatively more modern building and changed its name to Chez Moi Private Kitchen. I suppose adding the "Private Kitchen" to its name would make it ... trendy? I am not sure about that. There are so many new restaurant establishments nowadays attaching themselves with this label which to me is rather meaningless.

Si Sun Fast Food 時新快餐店
When it comes to Hong Kong style burger, most people would point you to Si Sun Fast Food for its bargain hearty burger with homemade sauce and meat patty. For around HKD16 you get yourself a double cheese burger with fried egg! Do expect long queues and cramped seating arrangement on a first come first served basis. You can bring you own stool and sit outside if you like, no one is going to stop you.

Green Waffle Diner
There seems to be an increasing number restos in town offering hearty food items and Green Waffle Diner is one that I quite enjoyed. It was my second visit but it was a as enjoyable as my first. During my first visit I commented on some of the items and I wanted to check up on the improvements if any. The Fried Chicken and Waffle was indeed an unlikely combo I find them quite ... matching! The owner did improve on the marination of the chicken and this time the meat was more flavorful. It was the fact that they make an effort to improve on the food based on customer's feedback (valid feedback of course). The waffle was airy and crisp, a simple sprinkle of icing was all it needed in my opinion.

Tong Kee 堂記腸粉專門店
It was quite a contrast to come here to a restaurant which has no air conditioning and tables were placed on the side of the street with exhaust fume all around you after watching Sex and the City 2. At the same time it reminded me that a meal is not all about the glamorous decor, expensive food and extravagant dining scene; it is an experience, a less than pleasant atmosphere can be as enjoyable.

The Night Market
When someone put "Night Market" and "Food" into the same sentence, all I can think of is the street food and richness of various flavors. But after my recent visit to The Night Market which serves Taiwanese cuisine, I simply miss the necessary evil I call MSG. What really happened the the flavors? or was it my taste buds? Anyhow, the decor was rather upscale and hip, nothing that would reassemble the sort of Night Market I had in mind.

The Significance of Soup?
It was a valuable opportunity to contribute a short piece for Angliss’ in-house magazine, Foodtalk, for its May/June 2010 Summer Issue. I decided to reproduce it here in order to share my thoughts on an oft forgotten dish ... SOUP!

Sun Kee 新記餐廳
It was a Cheesy day, a Cheesy Friday to be exact, a yummy one as well! Thanks to Mochachocolata Rita, I was lucky enough to be invited to this Cheesy night event! How cheesy? This resto hiding inside an old building in TST is known for its cheese instant noodles. A neighborhood kind of a joint with tables tightly packed together; expect to share a table with strangers or perhaps pretty girls and handsome guys if you are luck. There are several variations and being the hungry me, I ordered the one with almost everything! Deep fried pork chops, chicken wings and fried eggs!

Toronto - May 2010 - Day 9 (Steak, Steak and Steak!)
Sick and bored from my Toronto posts? Well, I am sorry but please stick with me for another 2 entries! I enjoyed my stay in Toronto as much as I enjoyed writing / sharing about it! It makes me feel my vacation has been somewhat extended while I write about it. On Day 9, it was a day full of eating ... as always! The highlight was the STEAK (as shown above) at night but during the afternoon my parents and I went for dim sum at Spring Villa Chinese Cuisine, another of my favorite Chinese restos in Toronto.

Toronto - May 2010 - Day 8 (Lobster Attack!)
On Day 8, I have recovered from my jet lag but I leave in 2 days time, how wonderful! Wasn't really in the mood to think or do anything else for that matter so I let my parents decide where to eat for lunch. Somehow we ended up at a Korean Supermarket which I was not aware of. Apparently it was opened several years back and quite popular among the Korean (and Chinese) community living uptown. At the back of the supermarket is a section dedicated to food, food courts to be exact.

Toronto - May 2010 - Day 7 (Sweetness Overdose?)
What do I mean by Sweetness overdose? How can that be possible? True, actually I don't think it is possible hence the question mark! I woke up quite late on this date because .... I have already adjusted to the timezone! I got up around 11am instead of 7am! Yes! That's normal during holidays! I was not really hungry so my parents and I stayed home for a simple homemade brunch which consisted eggs and toasts. Sooner than we expected, our stomachs were making noises so we called Aunt P to join us for afternoon tea! Where to? We picked one of my old times favorites, Oliver and Bonacini located in the Bayview Village mall. I recalled how I enjoyed the baked chocolate cake with the rich and creamy molten chocolate in every bite, but the item was no longer being offered! Argh!

Toronto - May 2010 - Day 6 (Joey Don Mills)
So the story goes like this: He participated in the Japan's Iron Chef cooking competition and lost by a mere half point. He is Chris Mills, a Canadian chef, who help inspired many of the items at Joey Don Mills. It was a wonderful day with plenty of Sunshine and light breezes as well. People were sitting outside enjoying their lunch under the warmth of the sun.
